Alright guys, finally getting into a truck next week (just to practice). It's a Kenworth T800 with an Eaton Fuller 8LL tranny with a Cat engine. I don't have a problem with shifting gears, double clutching, etc. due to driving a manual tranny Chevy for years. I just wanted to know if you guys are familiar with this tranny and know a general shift point to go for? I was thinking 1300-1500 RPM should be fine and not grind a gear? Thanks guys.

Everybody grinds at some point. And your RPM range is a touch high for some Cats, but fine for others...given the truck is spec'd with an 8LL it should be fine. Just remember, it's not gonna shift anything like a Chevy, double clutching notwithstanding. Oh, and DON'T put the clutch to the floor with every shift.

Take your time and get to know it. This is only done by practice. You don't always need to start off in 1st gear, feel the other gears, when starting. When your comfortable with shifting, then try shifting without a clutch. Every transmission has its range of RPM`s it likes when shifting. You have a great start, now, promise your self, to NEVER drive an automatic. I drive Downtown Chicago, for many, many years, with a Manual Trans. Some drivers like Auto`s , that's there choice, but when you first get into trucking, learn to drive a Manual.
