USA Idle-air ?

How does idle-air work? When it is cold out, do you run the truck all night long for heat? When its hot, all night for a/c? When its niether, does a generator run your tv, micro, fridge for you? Thinking of switching to OTR, thankyou very much for the information.

Another great use for Idle-Aire is the movies and Internet. Even though my company provides me with a Tri-Pac (APU),I don't have a laptop so the Idle-Aire is a great option for those times you need to reset your hours and/or spend some time on the Internet.

Okay - I am a complete newbie. Are these things the big yellow tubes that are hooked up to the passenger window? I've seen those at a truckstop - gives me the SHIVERS! The thing in the picture above looks small - like one of the old portable hair dryers. Those things at the truckstop look like something out of a sci-fi movie! Would someone please explain the attaching/access part of it a little more specifically to me? And what is the cost for renting these thingies?

Hooking them up is easy. You'll need a $10 window adapter for your truck, they sell them. And the cost to run is roughly $2 an hr. Some companies have discounts, and it depends on the tax in the area what the final charge will be.
It doesn't make sense for a company driver to pay for it out of his own pocket, unless you are wanting the movies. But for a cost conscience O/O it does.

I've always wondered who the hell has time to sit around with an Idle-Aire tube in their window. I do know it's not all it's cracked up to be.
