 Any Room for An Old Geezer? Hi Guys: I recently retired from the construction industry at age 63, still work out and am in excellent health. I'm thinking truck driving for a few years. The kids are long grown and gone and I have been divorced for a number of years. Don't need the money--just something to do and I love the road. Hours and salary are relatively unimportant. I am starting Mesaland Community College June 18th--10-week PTDI approved program. Would value any opinions. I have been reading this forum for several months but this is my first contribution. Thanks!  |

| Don't do it,unless you want to be happy the rest of your life,meet some old geezer friends like me out there,and above all be free as a bee,and see the whole country thru a windshield in all the seasons. And oh those friday night buffets are ever so bad on you. Nice to hear from you,I have been divorced after 18 yrs and married again this time,over 18 yrs and still going strong,it's still the best thing I ever enjoyed,even on a bad day,it's not like killing yourself inside some warehouse working like a dog with the boss over your behind. I love my job,no matter who the employer is,my job is still secure,never once been sorry I picked this profession. |

 You're gonna love it here  While I always think about retiring. I suspect I will be driving for much much longer. At your age, it's all good. Especially when you don't really "need" the job or the money. My neighbor retired from trucking 2 years ago (he said). I see less of him now, than before OH ! He still drives. Same company. He just cherry picks his loads now.  And stays gone a couple of extra days on each run, enjoying the areas he runs.Trucking has so much to offer older/semi-retired people. I can't understand why anyone would want a "busy" job at McDonalds to save my life. You'll always have a couple of days to kill each week. It may not be where you want to be. But, it sure beats sitting at home And, there's always next week.My best advise for you. Buy a digital camara and a large memory stick. Film will eat you alive LOL. |

 Positive Messages ++++ I do appreciate the positive responses I'm getting here in this group--great bunch of guys!! It quickly removes any doubts I might of had about getting my feet wet. Interesting you should have mentioned the digital camera--I was thinking of upgrading mine before starting on the road (wanted to purchase an SLR digital). I would also like to keep a diary of my experiences--something to look back over in my old, old age. LOL!!  |
