USA Delivering Motor Homes

I was curious if anyone in this forum has any experience driving motorhomes, fifth-wheel vehicles, etc.?? I understand you can drive for dealerships or manufacturers. I am interested in getting my class 'A' CDL and maybe doing something of this nature although I am aware it pays less and leaves the driver responsible for his return trip. Being semi-retired it sounds like something right up my alley. Any advice, warnings, suggestions? Thanks!

PS: I've been told the CDL is not required for vehicles under 26,000 pounds but in fact potential employers often ask for it anyway.

There are some retirees that live in my Manuf Home park that 'I heard' do this! I do know that in Tucson, every fall about 200+ RV's are moved from a Tucson dealer to Yuma to sit for sale over the winter. Then come the next April, the remaining ones are moved back to Tucson. Would think a driver with a good record who wants to work only seasonally would be wanted!! Will see if I can find those folks---let you know when I do...JAM

I have delivered RV's. It is seasonal, mostly summer. Here in the Southwest the season is from Oct. to May. Its slow right now largely due to the price of fuel. As far as having CDL most likely a Class B , but check with your State's DMV on that. The reason being some RV's are 45 ft weigh over 26000 lbs, and have air brakes. Many of these larger RV's gross out at 62k. Also some Dealerships amd Manufacters require you to keep a log.
