| Cigarette Smokers * * * MUST READ * * * Why is it that companies think nothing of letting cigarette smokers destroy truck after truck with filth and stink of a nasty cigarette smokers habbit? NOTHING gets that stench out, and I mean nothing! I have yet to get a truck that has not been contaminated, and it is really starting to piss me off!!!!! Smokers should be banned to smoking trucks and leave some that are not fouled up for those that don't want to smell your nasty butts! (pun intended) Oh yeah, while I have you attention, quit throwing those things out the window when you done stinking up yet another $100k + vehicle!!!!!!!! | I have never smoked a cigarette in my life... I hate the habit... but I refuse to bash smokers. I understand how you feel, but I see smoking as a coping mechanism for a lot of people... and I'd hate to see a trucker deprived of his/her method of coping with all the day-in and day-out b/s they encounter. One of my dearest friends is a driver... a smoker... and the industry would lose a 37 year veteran with a clean MVR if they banned smoking in the cab. Either he'd upright quit... or wind up a bundle of raw nerves and ruin his clean driving record. I wish neither upon him. Talk to a used car dealer. Somehow, when you sit in used cars, you never detect the scent of stale cigarettes. I wonder what they use to clean their vehicles?

HOWEVER, I agree with you about drivers that throw their (lit) butts out the window. You would think that anyone who pays upwards of $90k for a truck would spend a couple extra dollars for an ashtray.

| You are correct to a point, it is none of anyone's business what one does in a truck before you get it, except for the fact that they don't take this with them when they move out! I have no issue with smokers smoking, I have issue with companies that let them do it and offer no alternative to NON smokers. Last edited by MACK E-6; 05.27.2007 at 09.07 PM. | I bought a bottle of fabric freshener and used it repeatedly over a couple of months on all of the fabric, and gradually, the odor disappeared. I had to use it less often as time went on. I bought a used car that I didn't smell anything in for over a week after I bought it and it took months to cure that one. Also be aware that many mechanics smoke and they move your truck around when they work on it, many of them light up every chance they get. Look for ash burns on the upholstery, when assessing a vehicle, people do try to cover bad smelling upholstery, and you will probably have some deodorizing to do if you get moved into one. Vinyl and leather also absorb smoke, the freshener can be applied to those as well, but vinyl can be cleaned with Simple Green, that removes some of it, Capture carpet and upholstery cleaner absorbs smoke, too, but sometimes isn't effective enough. I have never had to clean leather other than shoes, so I won't comment on that. Smoke gets into everything including the HVAC system, air fresheners need to be used for that. You pretty much have to drive what's available where you work, unless you buy your own, and if you buy used, chances are, it's had cigarettes smoked in it somewhere along the line. |

It would be nice though I am sorry I do flip my cigarrette butt out! Why? Because I don't want my ash try all piled up. My friend was smoker and did not want to use the ashtray so she could sell her car as a non-smoker had it Banning cigarette smoking in tractors or any vehicle would be to me a violation of my rights. You should find a braned new company just starting out and get your truck and stay there with them in the same truck, that would be an idea.
