We all tend to lag behind the rest of society and companies prey on that. My current student didn't know what a union was... I aam not joking. He's like "what's that???"

The real power that we do have is the hate against us...sounds like I am out of my mind, but any time you want something changed, just tell people it will stop the bad truckers. Like if I called mayor Bloomberg and told him they have student drivers taking 40 ton vehicles into his city, you can bet I could get him to ban new drivers...because they hate bad truck drivers.

So if you want something changed, just remind them how it makes bad truck drivers.

Ithe next election, we will be starting a campaign to stop the driving deaths. Some companies have a 24 deaths in 24 months. We are not slaves or disposable, we are not going to let companies kill and mentally toy with us. It's gone too far when we are losing more truckers than we lost soldiers in the worst year in Iraq... And the iraqis were actually trying to kill us...

How messed up is trucking when it accidentally kills more than a war?

Drivers will demand 6 months training minimum, if a company cannot function with that requirement, too bad. They will either have to treat drivers better or run out of drivers and shut down. Simple enough. This is America, slavery was abolished already my fellow drivers!

I know you want input from the pros.. and Iam not that.. but, as an individual who wants to become a well trained professional driver and eventually become an owner operator.. the way the industry is now makes it hard for someone like myself to be certain I can and will get the quality training I want and need to succeed...
I went through a private school and got my CDL A and all the endowments.. that is easy.. but getting a license in reality just means I learned enough to to begin to learn..

The scary and stressful truth is.. I can go get on with a training company.. but, I read the we sites.. and a driver of only 3 months can train me.. and I am supposed to feel confident and comfortable with that.. not only that, this trainer may be someone who is only training to get extra money and as no real interest in providing me with the training I deserve and need..

Becoming a professional driver is important to me and I have, will and am willing to invest my time and resources to attain that.. but, with the way the industry is now I have to jump onto the pool.of new drivers who can't or won't invest a dime in becoming a driver.. they want it paid for and handed to them.. and there are companies and programs for them to have that..

But, for the all too few who want to be properly and well trained.. there are no programs and companies.. you really have to look very very hard and be patient.. maybe you will get on with a owner operator who will train you.. no, you won't be handed a truck in 5 weeks.. you will do the grunt work, sweep the trailer, wash the tarps.. but at least you have a driver with actual knowledge and experience teaching you and training you..
So that you can be a driver who has respect for themselves, for their career and the company they work for...
