Do most companies pay you the same pay if you are hauling an empty or bob tailing.

I've worked for GTI, IDC and Swift (not in that order). IDC and GTI paid the same, loaded, bobtail or empty. Only Swift was different: BT or empty they paid base rate only; no sliding scale or fleet bonus.

Werner paid me $.10 a mile less for deadhead or bobtail unless I was going home, then it was nothing:biggrin_25517:. There were several times that I deadheaded over 500 miles then they paid me as if I was under a load.

They should pay the same loaded and empty if you're a company driver. Anything less . . . they're just trying to pass on the costs of doing business to the driver - and we wear enough responsibility as it is.

You've probably figured that the company only gets paid for loaded miles, and has to eat the cost of fuel and driver wages between end point and start point. It's not your fault that a load isn't close by - you're not paid to dispatch the truck and find loads.

Bobtailing - to the house, for instance - no pay. It's nice when they let you take it home, and I would always respect the free transport, especially when I didn't own a car.

Exception is % pay, nothing to deadhead/BT.

When I was company, I was paid the same deadhead as I was loaded. Doesn't seem fair that companies would do anything different.

I would think it should be this way but seems like I read somewhere someone did not get payed for dead head and b/t so that is why I was asking.

Company policy varies. Make sure you have all the questions you want answered for the companies you are looking at. My company is loaded/empty same pay
