The NuWave PIC is "C3" (Cheap Chinese Crap). It works (more or less), but the customer service is terrible. Basically, if it breaks, toss it out.

If you want a GOOD induction "hot plate", be prepared to spend around $300 for a commercial unit. The TA in Greencastle, PA uses a few of them for stir fry, and they take a beating. I'll try to remember to see what brand they are this weekend.

There is another unit out there that you may want to take a look at, and the brand is one that truckers know well... Max Burton. Reviews are generally positive; most of the negative ones are for issues inherent with a portable device such as this.

Best of all, I *have* seen the Max Burton induction cooktop at TA/Petro; I don't remember where...

If you use an induction hot plate be sure to check out the wattage requirement. I really wanted to get one for the truck but would need to install at least a 2500 watt inverter, which is a "no go" for a company driver.

Concerned about raw food safety? I just came across this comment:

Thomas Dowdy-Winslett Art Aficionado • a day ago Susan Sumner, professor at University of Nebraska, developed a process I've found to be the most effective way to disinfect: a spray bottle of vinegar and another spray bottle of hydrogen peroxide. I've been using it for years and continue to be impressed with the way it disinfects, cleans, and deodorizes. Actually sometimes there is a little bit of vinegar taste on fresh greens, tomatoes, or other raw produce but this can be removed by washing or rinsing it off before eating. There are several websites that discuss the effectiveness of this combination but the basic "rules" are:
    1. You need two separate bottles, one vinegar and the other 3% hydrogen peroxide. Don't mix them into one bottle.
    2. Spray one then the other (it doesn't matter which is first).
    3. Leave the solution on for a minute to allow it to kill any bacteria, fungus, mold, etc. Then it is safe to eat without washing.
I also use the combo on my sponges, sink, cutting board and any where else in the kitchen. I've been known to use it in the bathroom and washing machine also.

I've been washing my vegetables with vinegar in water, no hydrogen peroxide. Seems to have been working fine.

I remember my grandmother used to clean the entire house with vinegar, olive oil, lemons, or baking soda. She soaked lemons in vinegar for a great cleaning solution.
