| How hard is the road test? Hi, I got to orientation with May this monday and first thing is the road test. How hard is it? I got my license about 3 months ago and haven't driven since. How would you compare it to say the test I took at the DMV. And if I don't pass do you get another chance or do they just send you packing? Thanks for any advice. |

| I assume that you will be going out with a trainer??? If so, your road test will be more of a "skills assessment", to see what your weak areas are. If you are not going out with a trainer...good luck. You road test should include 12 miles of road with turns, etc etc. You'll also have to do some backing. The exact nature of May Truckings' test I do not know, but there are minimums set by Federal Guidelines.

| yeah I'm not sure, she called me this morning to talk about coming up monday and what I need to bring and said the first day I will be having a UA and a road test and what I needed to bring. See, I'm not sure how it all works exactly. I think I have been hired but I also am not sure if I have to take this test and pass it to be hired or how good of a driver I have to be. I mean, I took the road test and the skills test the cdl office gave me and I did pretty well backing and pretty well driving. It was about a 30 minute course that involved some steep hills and a roundabout and very sharp narrow turns in construction zones in a city. But I'm not really sure what May expects from me. I hope I don't fail and get sent packing monday night. |

In short, companies DO NOT have to test all people. But, they do have to follow the guidelines telling them when and which ones to test. Most will do it anyway, as we all know. It's a simple CYA manuever.

Hero...you ain't hired until they toss you the keys and the fuel card. LOL. But relax, you'll be fine. Most "company" skills test are nothing like the road test you took for your CDL's.
