USA How can your repair a damaged CDL?

Any recommendations on repairing a damaged CDL? Got dinged with a few minor incidents that fell real close together, and was terminated. Now nobody wants to talk to me. Hate the idea of having to go to JBHunt long enough for the junk to drop off, but its looking more and more like I may have to.

You are so right about 'Protecting your CDL'! My advice learned the hard way -- once you sit down in the driver's seat, it is ALL business. You cannot let yourself be distracted by anything at anytime. Be totally aware of your surroundings and what potential hazards are around you. And yes, that truck parked next to you in the truck stop is a hazard. A moment's distraction can lead to minor damage but a disaster on your livelihood.

Don't take this wrong, but your signature (Worrying about the past is like trying to drive a car forwards while looking in the rearview mirror!) I can't help but think that maybe you ought to change that outlook. Those mirrors help you from getting in the jam that you are in.

How many incidents and what kind of time frame? Not sure that JB is your answer. Might be better off to let things drop off your record.

Yes, Notarps there is some irony in the signature. I just believe in what has happened has happened, not much to do about it, just learn from it and move on.

I had 3 in the last year, caught a trailer door on a guard rail along side the dock resulting in minor damage to the door, but significant enough to put the trailer out of service. The next, I apparently broke the glass in the fisheye mirror of a truck as I pulled out of a parking place with the trailer swing -- had no idea that I did it till I started getting messages on the QC an hour down the road. If I had known that it happened, I would gladly have replaced the mirror for the fellow. And the last one, I started to pull out of a space in a T/S and stopped to retrieve some stuff from the bunk. In that time the truck that had been to my right moved up without my releasing it, which meant my turn was now too short and I hit his hood. In talking to other drivers, someone suggested that they guy may have already had damage and pulled up so that I would hit him and then he gets a new hood at my expense not his. I am not sure if thats what happened, I would hate to think that someone would really do that, but anyways I got tagged for it.

I have spoken to a number of recruiters, and as soon as I tell them that I was terminated they say they cant hire me. Also they way the company reported the two minors on my DAC makes me look real bad. Some have said I just need to wait as much as six months and then they will happily take me on, but I cant wait that long.

Yeah, that might be a little tough with 3 in 1 year. A lot of companies will not hire if you have more than 1 preventable in the last 3. Good luck to you, you might have to buy time somewhere then you might need a refresher course and to go out with a trainer again.

Notarps, thanks for your feedback, JBHunt (arrrrggghhhh) has promised a position in August when the first one of the year has fallen off. What amazed me is how so many companies were willing to work with me because 2 of 3 were very minor. Then they would ask if I had been terminated because of these. Of course I told the truth (they would find out anyways and then report to the DAC that I lied on my application). They immediately said sorry cant hire you. Several of the good companies have said wait six months, and they can hire me then. (I hope they were not lying to me just to make me feel better about being turned down by them!) I am trying to find smaller companies that dont rely on the DAC, but they end up saying about the same thing, "The insurance company wont approve you."

So I guess only time heals an injured CDL. I guess if I could handle my prior employer I can live with JB for awhile, appreciate the opportunity they give me, wait till time passes, STAY SAFE, and then move onto greener pastures. Who knows maybe I will find that I like it there, after all there are many drivers that have made a career there. You just hear so much negative things about them. Thier benefits are set up so you dont get anything until you have been there awhile. One can only assume that it is that way because so many drivers must leave after a few months. That seems to be a sign that things arent right. Wouldnt it be cheaper to create an environment where drivers want to stay, or is the cheap labor they get out of new hires more worthwhile to them?
