I am a new student, just graduated out of school in Denver.

    I have offers from

    May Trucking
    Western Express
    Werner

Trying to make a solid decision to get my foot in the door. Hearing and reading quite a few bad things about Western Express. Likewise with Werner and that makes me pretty skittish and nervous.

I DO want to go OTR, i like to drive so trips don't bother me. I have no kids, spouse or family and have nothing tying me down. I'm very hungry....hungry to learn, hungry to earn. Student loans from college are killing me right now.

Very open to suggestions for other companies too. I just want to make the right choice. It doesn't serve me well to sign on with a company, and only end up getting 1500 miles and having to sit and wait for loads. I want one after the after. I don't care about home time.

    Chinatown and blairandgretchen Thank this.

    JBS Carriers would be good.

    K&B Transportation
    Matheson Trucking Inc.
    System Transport
    Navajo
    Melton Truck Lines
    Ryder
    Watkins & Shepard
    Mesilla Valley Transportation

Forget those 3 you mentioned. Any of the above would be better.
Should make over $50K with the 2 flatbed companies listed.
Study the websites and put in some applications.

You won't sit much at all with a tanker company.
Don't know if the ones that hire new CDL grads, hire out of Denver though.

    Schneider Bulk
    Superior Carriers
    SVTN
    CTL Transportation

What about them? Are you asking what companies to go with? If so, You would have to look into local companies as your cant drive Intrastate.

I have a classmate who drives for May Trucking Co. Except for micromanaging him pretty tightly on fuel, he is fairly happy there. He runs dry van, Western-11.

You're good staying away from Western Express and Werner.

Mesilla Valley Trans wants two years exp. They're pretty firm on that. Navajo/Digby isn't a good outfit. K&B also wants experience, but you might be able to jump to them after nine months. System is a great flatbedder outfit. Definitely check them out if you want to go into flatbedding. I've heard mostly good things about Melton.

I believe you meant he can't drive INTERstate, with him being under 21.
Intrastate = within the borders of one state
Interstate = crossing borders o states (any/all states)

OP, I concur with all of what Criminey Jade stated above. Especially there are much better choices than Werner & Western Express.

RESEARCH, RESEARCH, RESEARCH!! Also -get a 'feel' for WHAT area of this industry "YOU" feel comfortable doing! YES - flats & car carriers can make BIG bucks doing specialty hauls but you need experience to get into them & "have to" like being out in ALL weather strapping down!

Reefer is great because a flat floored reefer can haul "temp control, dry, or frozen", also LTL (less then load - meaning NOT heavy just big or huge) & there are numerous areas for this - pharmaceuticals is one of them, or DoD (department of defense), etc, etc, etc. SEE what I mean - takes time to find your niche!

But for now - just decide on ONE that actually gives you what YOU want (money, miles, health care, etc) & stick with it for at least a year & then if you choose to change up or specialize - go for it!
