A Few Questions From A Newbie

Hello all, I am a wife of a new trucker. I know this is going to be hard, but I am independant and I have alot to keep me busy while hubby is out. My questions are he is working for UsExpress, I have read good and bad about them. Hubby is out now with them for the 21 day trainer driving. My question is when will he expect his 1st pay, and I know they are not the best nor the worst, but for a 1st time trucker how are they? He is really excited about this career move and I dont want his 1st trucking company to dampen his spirit.

U S Express

I would say first off is call US Express and ask them when his first check will be there.
Second I have heard not many positive things about that company. They are great for a single guy (or gal) who never wants to be home. If you want to see your hubby more than once a month I would suggest to him to stay with them until he finishes training then move on to something better. At least give them 6 months to gain some experince out here on the road.

From our experience, the first year is the roughest. Their just getting started and their new to the trucking world - he does need to get experience though, and keep his record clean. Hubby's been in 3 1/2 years, changed jobs a couple of times and hoping this last change is the one for awhile - Good Luck, keep your chin up and continue to be supportive, he'll need it!.........................Lori

He is out on the road today, I didnt want to tell him any of the negative that I have seen on this forum. He is already nervous, and like you said he needs the experience. He seems to have an okay trainer. I do support him and will worry about him too. I asked about the pay because we are already finicially strapped and he didnt take much money with him to eat on and all. He will have his pay direct deposited and I told him I will text him when it is in there so he can take out some for eating on. Another question, he has received his settlement sheet from his orientation, could someone tell me what does wire mean? Thanks.

pay

He will have the opportunity to take cash advances to eat on and stuff so that want be a problem but if i remember right they don't make allot while training so there may not be much to the house for a few weeks but it will work out as soon as he gets on his own truck. So don't worry about him going hungry. If he has a decent trainer he will make sure he is fed and stuff if he has to take it out of his pocket. i know when i trained I always bought breakfast for my trainee's i figured it was the least i could do after all they made me money by driving i got paid for all miles and they were on a fixed income so much a week.
