Hello truckers hope everyone is safe! I got a few Questions to ask and I hope someone can help me out! Im a recent cdl Grad. looking for a good company to work for. I would like to do flat bed! But Im also a big heavy set guy im 6'2" 395 pounds but also healthy. I wanna go to work for someone like Maverick but im scared they will just send me back home on a bus cause of my weight. Ive been a contractor all my life and there is not a load i couldnt strap and secure even if I wasnt trained if I had a 6 ft step ladder. I see guys with flat beds having ladders all the time but I was told some companies wont allow it and to me thats not safe.. anyways story short fat man looking for a job.. I can drive my ### off been pulling trailers all my life. I even had a game warden ask me one time how i parked a 36 ft camper in the mountain without a helicopter lol. Can someone tell me if there is any company that will hire me for flat bed being as heavy as i am? my driving record is clean im 38 years old and dont need to come home on weekends ! I would rather stay on the road and make money! So anyone wanna start with a fat joke haha !!! I look forward to anyones help with this and hope to see alot of you on the road soon! I drive for Melton. I'm 6'2 and 350 and get around just fine. I have a folding extension ladder strapped to my chain rack and was encouraged by the guy that did orientation to get a ladder.

If ya have any questions let me know.

Most companies wont let you get past the application fase. Maybe melton will, but your 45 pounds heavier then that other guy. Truth is, for tarping some loads you will need to climb on top of the load. Loads like rolled paper require you to climb on the load and unless the shipper has an auto tarp system, you cant tarp it from the ladder. A 6 foot ladder wont help you tarp a 13 foot high load anyway. Your not going to tarp over your head.

Weather you could do it safe with a ladder or not, there are some cases a ladder wont work. Most companies need to see that you can climb on a load if needed to. You also must be able to climb on and off the trailer from the back. Also, many small fold-able ladders are not rated for over 300 pounds. If you hurt yourself when a 300 pound ladder fails, the company doesn't want to be responcible. That alone may disqualify you. I recommend calling companies. I don't think tmc will take you, but call recruiters and explain yourself.

Your location is needed, for knowing which companies that hire from your area.
I like your attitude Butterbean, and the camper/parking line.

I once worked with another "Butterbean" & another guy we called "Beanpole".
If they walked together they looked like a "mobile" number 10.
Good luck on finding the right company & welcome to TTR.

i just Googled ladders....the highest rating i saw on 6 and 8 foot is 375 pounds. A company would be asking for a lawsuit if they let a 395 pound man use a ladder rated for 375.
