Just curious, when you stop for fuel or any other small expenses incurred, do you pay for it then get reimbursed or do most drivers have a company card or what?

I know some make you stop at specific places to fuel, and was also wondering how you pay for it there?

    Thanks

First, it's fuel or diesel, not gas!!! Except for a few people running around in smaller vehicles, most commercial vehicles are running on diesel fuel.

With that out of the way, most companies provide their drivers with a credit card, issued to the driver that can be used for purchases of fuel and needed services, usually issued by a company who''s specific business is in ttucking financial transactions. Common names are T-check, Comdata, and a few others.

They are slightly different from the credit card in your wallet, not allowing the same range of financial services, and they are usually set up with limits on how often they can be used, so that you aren't spending too much on it. For example, if I fuel in the morning, my card will not allow me to make a large purchase for several hours, making the assumption that I have enough fuel to run for a reasonable length of time. This preventss any fraud, and if for some reason I have to make a second purchase of some type, I can make a phone call for authorization.

If i have to buy other things, I will often pay for it myself and turn in the receipt for reimbursement. Some companies are fussy about doing that, mine has never caused me any grief. I have at times had to pay for a tow or even bought fuel because the computers were down and wouldn';t accept my fuel card, but I have always been reimbursed with no problems. Not all companies are that way though, so it helps to have talked this out with your boss beforehand.

I will typically buy 400-500 gallons a week, and it is always paid for on the card, or if at a company pump, I use it to authorize the pump. It rides in my wallet and I am the only one authorized to use that card.

Thanks for the quick response. Good to know I won't have to keep up with too many receipts like that to get reimbursed later, only on an as needed basis.

And sorry for calling it "gas", still a noob here.

I'm a independent driver. So, yes, I have to pay my own gas for my truck. Some company will fill your truck if you work for them.

Man brother, you've been digging up some OLD threads LOL. This one is from 2007. I know your new here so, I'm not beating you up, just saying. In the top middle of the screen under 'CDL Practice Tests" is "New Posts" icon. Click on it and then scroll through those, as they generally will have more relevant conversations going versus these old grave yard threads your digging through LOL.
