Hello im new, my name is josh and im only young and looking forward to drive a semi truck at some point in my life sadly i have a long way to go...
i just want some company by some real truckers and their experianses. so tell me anyone have any edvise on a new favoret company or truck.

to me you truckers are role modles ( sort-of )

please i dont want to be an ankle-biter..

Not necessarily. If your state is anything like MD you can get a CDL at age 16, but only a class B. You can't get a class A until you're 18, and can't drive across a state line in a truck until you're 21.

What I would do if I were you, and you really want to do this for a living, is to get a B license as soon as you are able, and get on with a construction company driving dump trucks.

Listen to the old Waylon and Willy song before deciding to drive. Those guys were pretty wise. Now's the time you need start gunning for med school or law school. If I were your daddy and I read this, I'd be sending you to private school to make sure you don't get that CDL. But hey, that's just my opinion.

Let's see......Fork Union Military Academy......Augusta Military School...... What else is out there for little boys?

My son has wanted to drive a truck since he was 8 years old. He turned 21 this year and starts driving school on the 18th of July. I told him once i would brake both his arms if he ever got behind the wheel of a truck us dads all ways want better for our sons. Well i am still proud of him and with todays job market around our home town and other places where are the kids supposed to do to make a living when there is either 4 years of college for a degree that he can't use with out experience or flipping burgers so he is going to school and we will see where he lands but one thing about it you can never take a CDL away if you keep your nose clean and you will always have a job.

The mothering in me is coming out! I hope your really only 12 and looking for some good role models, I have a 13yr girl who wants to drive and 2 little boys who think their daddy is the best trucker around. The driver friends that come around are some of the best people out there, they'd do anything for my kids and me and I'm lucky to have them in our lives. Listen to the advise you get here, make some great friends, but number one thing - BE A KID!! You can dream about tommarrow, but make the most of today!

I drove for years pulling myself up by my bootstraps. No government handouts, just hard work as a driver. I made it. I got my bachelor's degree and high-tailed it out of trucking. Now that I've gotten into the "up" position, I will make sure my offspring never have to endure what I did. Isn't that this so-called "American Way"? Don't know, but I do know my kid(s) will never set foot in anything that has more than six wheels. No way will I allow them to drive rigs. If it's bigger than a powerstroke dualie, they won't be driving it.

I just talked my brother out of getting his CDL. One family member being exploited was enough. It was one too many, really.

You have quite a few years left to decide what you want to do. When the time comes to choose a career, and truck driving is what you decide you want to do, then just make the most of it.

As Mack said, there may be some opportunities for you locally when you get a little older doing things such as driving a dump truck. Not a bad way at all to get some experience with large trucks.

It is a good career, it just isn't for everybody.

ya i do have a lot of time most of my friends think im a little crazy and so do some of my famly members I think but their nice about it.. and im only in 6th grade i kno it says my b-day is april but i wasnt paying much attenction....

so..those who are truck drivers ( my uncle is one just a reefer but not sure drives a frieghtliner )
wat trucks do u drive or plan iv looked at almost everything for trucks, im only going to be 12 in 10 days. getting closer, wats ur guys/girls , opinons about being operator owner or with a bussness? witch one do u perfure?

Nothing at all wrong with being an owner opeator. I have done it in the past, although I am a company driver currently. I was off the road for over 3 years, and going back in as a company driver was the easiest way for me to get back into it for now, without any risk. Now that I have been back out here for a short time, I am looking into the idea of buying a truck again, just not sure if I will do it.

Plan on starting out driving for a company to get some experience, learn the industry, and decide if you want to do it long term. The last thing you want to do is buy a truck early on and risk the chance of this being something you don't like doing once you get into it.

Can you take some trips with your uncle? Might be a good way to get an idea of what it is like to be out here.

Hey trucker wannabe

I was a little kid when I started wanting to drive a truck.

I was 17 before I got out on the road with someone but I liked it out there.

The best advise is that you should go with your uncle and see if you like it.

I was going o get my CDL at 19 but I had problem getting financed and could not get a grant due to I was not old enough to go Over the road.

I got my CDL this past May and It was good to get behind the wheel of a big truck.

I can say that pulling a trailer behind a regular vehicle will help you when it comes to doing the backing manauvers even though it is different with a big truck .

I started pulling alot of different trailers with my pickup when I was 18 and I can say atleast that helped me with backing a big truck.
