My wife and I are about to go to CDL school and are looking to team drive for a good company. I found these boards last night and man what an eye opener. While my wife and I are ready to make this change, my wife doesnt want to be split up during training. What companies will keep a team together to train besides Covenant? The bad press on them is extreme here. Thanks for your help in advance.

SRT, a division of Covenant...used to train teams. Don't know if they still do. I do recall 1 team that will never train with them again...matter of fact, they will never drive again, due to an accident while training together. The trainer laid the truck over.

While I understand your thinking. I advise that you take seperate training. ANY company that offers to train you together, is setting you up for failure. Your trainer will be alert for distinct things which sets one or both of you off. And will avoid those topics/areas with both of you. To the detriment of all of us others on the road with you.

As a husband, how willing are you to sit quietly while a trainer chews your wifes butt out for failing to follow a simple instruction, and placing all 3 of your lives in danger?

I'm not saying that "any" trainer would do this (although they do). But you are only hurting you and your spouses ability to learn and be taught, by training together.

Rethink why you are asking to train together... Does it involve fear, security, jealousy, lack of trust, or a genuine need to be together? Or is it the "protector" that calls the shots, and not the team?

Actually the underlying reasons were not based with me but with my wife who doesnt want to go OTR with a strange guy for 30-40 days due to her own fears of ending up with one of the Tide Bottle Speeper Trainers described on many of the posts herein... She would not feel comfortable with a male trainer and fest that if we had a bad trainer, atleast we would have each other. You make a good point however.

My husband and I are in similar situation, as I feel the same way as your wife does. Interstate Distributors told us they would train a husband and wife team together, and they seemed like a decent company to get started with. Good luck to you both.

I never thought of that - husband and wives being seperated, doesn't make sense, if they're going to work as a team, why not train as a team.

Another thing to think about with regards to training separately, you won't learn everything that you need to know from your trainer. If you and your wife each get different trainers, hopefully you will each learn something a little different from your different trainers. Then, as you work together, your knowledge will complement her knowledge. Good luck.

My husband and I just spent time looking for the same arrangement. We are both going to a local vo-tech adult ed program.

Check out what financial aid might be available. Check out this web site:

    Good luck!

I'm pretty sure K&J are already with Interstate. In fact, it's probably the one that tried running me off the road earlier. ;)

I think US Xpress and Cr England offer a "train your spouse" program. I believe it works only if one or the other signs on, gets his/her training for 3 to 6 months and then (provided the newbie) is experienced enough and has learned enough (has a safe driving record etc) they will permit the spouse to train the other.

I cannot speak to the quality of these companies from firsthand experience although I have "heard" from other drivers they are decent.
Of course that is just 1 persons opinion and weighing that hearsay against all the negative posts I have read on here (on both companies) has caused me to be very skeptical indeed. That said there are usually drivers that are happy with their employer even at the worst companies. It all depends on you and the relationship you have with management wether you will have a positive experience or a negative 1.
