Study, Study, Study. It is the only way. You have to be able to name the parts plus who what when and how about the parts.... Such as the belt should not have no more that 3/4 in on play when press or pulled at the center and should not be frayed, cracked or have any irregular wear... Alan

Get a copy of the checklist and start to memorize that. It's best to take the list and start at the same point of the truck all the time and then work your way around the tractor/ trailer. I would start with oil, fliuds, etc.. tires, wheels, door, hinges, etc... etc.. After you do this awhile you won't even need the list. Good Luck.

I always studied with two or three people. The others will watch and if you mess up they will harp on you. This is not bad you want them to do that. Then you do the same for them. I started with a paper list, then made fancy laminated index cards. Of which a field instructor saw and laughed himself sless over, told me to through those away and taught us a method to memorize the air brake test and in-cab inspection. He taught in such a way that we learned it in ten minutes. He would say something and then let us take turns repeating it what he just said. We did this over and over all night. One student said it then I said it and we would go back and fourth. Any mistakes we would bust each others b. It helps if you get along with your study partner. ![]() regards, jyhm

Tazz, A way I remember laundry lists in school is making words (not real words though) from the first letters of a list. You might do this with each functional area to help 'chunk' your memory. Then you just have to remember 3 words like LIZAT APRNT SIFG. Once you see this, then you will just have to associate each letter with a picture in your mind of the part per each functional area. I'll be doing it soon, but you are ahead of me. First things first. I'm hoping to knock it all out in one weekend, but if working weekends will do it a little every day. Its so much easier to cram though. Another way which I do simultaneously is to keep summarizing all the facts on smaller and smaller sheets of paper. Then when I have it down to cheat-sheet size, I have remembered it, but have an easy reference up to taking test without flopping out books and searching for it

| dont forget the LAB test!! my class had a few people fail the pre trip on that alone... push in your brake buttons BEFORE you do the 4psi leak test.. if you dont, your low air alarm will never come on, and obviously the buttons wont pop out either
