i work for the city of nashville..i just got a job offer driving shuttle or linehaul

Stay with the city.trucking does not have the benefits you have as a city employee.not would you make as much money or be at home.This is a no brainer imho.

 

The thing to understand in trucking what you can make and what you expect to make is not a guarantee of what you will actually make.. and, things can change suddenly... you can be going along fine, getting miles and good loads making a good paycheck, then go through a lean period... in trucking there are many factors at play in determining what you will make a week... have a breakdown where it takes a week to get fixed and you have a very lean pay check coming...

No one can tell you what to do.. any why would you leave su h a choice in the hands of strangers.. we can give you our thoughts and opinions and you can filter through it all to make a decision on your own...

Yep stay with the city. You can't beat the benefits. Even though you make less a person can do more with a steady paycheck. You get a roller coaster paycheck it's a little harder to manage things.

 

Stay with the City. You have PERS pension and excellent health insurance. In trucking you have crappy high deductible health insurance and a 401K (THIS IS NOT A PENSION!!!). Also you probably get overtime after eight hours working for the city.

If you need an extra $300-$350 a week get a side job working the dock. Union trucking companies will pay time and a half after 8 hours. Some of the nonunion companies will pay OT after 8 (I believe Conway does) not sure about dock work at OD. They may pay after 40 but I do believe their city drivers get OT after 50 hours. YRC in Nashville is hiring along with ABF, OD, and a few others. Leaving a city job for that extra cash is not a good choice. Stay with the city and retire with a great pension and excellent benefits for the family. The only company that can match your pension and health insurance is the Post Office.

 

I would think you only work 8 hour's a day, trucking that would be considered part time.
