im currently in cdl here in jax fl and I have an 8 week class then I will have my cdl. I have tons of questions and I just need some answers... 1st when I get out of truck school I need to find a local gig I need to home every day since I have a new born and a wife to be... can you guys give me some companies that I can consider I had to pay out of pocket for school so reimbursement will be great... lots of companies have been saying I need 1-2 years otr but of course I don't have that I am 21 and for the past 3 years I have been in the delivery field driving a van. I called a few truck companies and I am really considering IN THIS ORDER 1) CCC, 2) SOUTHEASTERN, 3)SAIA... I WOULD CONSIDER AAA COOPER BUT THEY ARE SAYING I NEED MORE EXP... CAN U GUYS GIVE ME SOME IDEAS ON SOME COMPAINES AND THE COMPAINES I HAVE IN MY TOP 3... as I stated before I need to be local !!!

Probably an LTL company. What about Lowe's, Home Depot, Sears? Or, Estes, but I think they want experience. Companies will occasionally take less experience if they're busy. I think concrete companies go thru a lot of drivers, maybe something in construction or supplies. Good luck.

I highly doubt any of these companies will hire a new driver my opinion if your lucky a concrete or construction company. the big problem is most of these companies need to have experienced drivers because of there insurance. Not sure I would of started a Driving school without having something lined up. If you get your CDL and you don't use it within a certain amount of time its going to be worthless because even OTR training companies will want you to be a "recent graduate" Good luck! and congratulations on that new baby.

Milkman is telling your right. The fact is some of the guys I went to school with kept waiting for a local job while I went OTR. They said I was crazy for doing it. Now I have a job that pays $60k and I'm home weekends while they are just home weekends, well I guess they get weekdays off too... at least until their unemployment runs out. If you aren't working by the end of 90 days you'll either be taking a 'refresher' for an additional $1500 or driving a bus. I'd stop dreaming and start working before its too late. Plenty of local options soon enough and you might decide local kinda sucks anyways. I live near Chicago and you'd have to pay me $3.00/mile to run local cause it blows that hard.

Thanks for all the replies... As far as the company I named I went and talked with them and they said once complete school that they will give me a shot I'm asking if anyone know of these companies I listed because I seen some reviews and they weren't good I have to do local otr is not an option.. I also would consider WM but only for residential dumping

CCC is part of Comcar as you know. Another new Jacksonville driver was hired with CTL Transportation, a Comcar division, and is home every day. I think he said he drives a day cab and hauls either fuel or chemicals.

I don't know if the company is still there but "SAV-A-STOP" in Orange Park would be perfect for you. I was still in the Navy and I made it back every time. Most of their runs can be as long as 3 days and that's for the money makers. What I can remember is we would be on west beltway I295 and we would get off on U.S. 17 then turn at the first right onto Wells Road. The terminal was maybe 500 yards after the turn so even if Sav-A-Stop is gone maybe another trucking company is there. If you check it out please get back to me and let me know what's there. Thanks and good luck.
