I am a 29 year old female, thinking of becoming a truck driver. I have a 2 year old son I would like to take with me most times but not all the time. I have no experience as a truck driver nor a CDL. Where are the companies that will train and let me take my son without needing to do a lease option?

Quite a few companies will let you bring a family member along, but there's usually an age restriction and you have to be with them for a certain period of time. My company 's limits are 8 years old and 90 days on the job with no at fault accidents since being employed with them. You'll just need to ask when talking to companies what their requirements are.

any trucking company will be unhappy about taking a two year old child with you at any time. trucks are not easy to drive why would you put a 2 year old at risk, have you given a thought to your skill level as a new driver?

2 years old is a bit young to be couped up in a truck for days or weeks at a time. Not to mention many shippers/receivers have rules about nobody being under 18 on property. Please reconsider this. A truck is nowhere for a toddler.

Wow. I have seen couples out here with a small child but just a young lady with a young child. Wow. How could you possibly do your job? A 2 yr old needs supervision every second 24/7. Sorry, but I just can't see any company taking that risk.

I wouldn't risk it either. Too much can happen with a small child. Really bad idea.

This is a bad idea. First off, you cant do your job of driving 500-600 miles per day while caring for a 2 yr old. Secondly, and most importantly, that is no environment for a 2 yr old to be raised in. Buckled into a car seat for 11 hrs a day. You would really do that to your child? I would consider that child abuse, plain and simple. That will be tantamount to torture for that child.

I used to ride with my dad for hours when I was young, but we always went home at night. I'll be the first one to tell you, YOU ARE AN IDIOT IF YOU TAKE HIM WITH YOU!! Trucking is no LONGER a acceptable place for anyone under the age of puberty unless your going to shelter him. When I was growing up shippers and receivers were more open to looking the other way, and drivers were more respectful.

My company allows anyone over 8, from day 1, with no added cost. Under 8 must be accompanied by another adult. Like the others have said, a toddler needs constant attention and distraction.
