My brother-in-law and his wife are a team. They just purchased a new tractor and need to get it to California. Since they are out running in the company truck they're driving and I'm the only one they trust with a CDL, they want me to drive their new tractor to Cali for them so they can swap out tractors. I'll just take time off from my company and bobtail from Iowa to Cali for them. Is there anything I need to be worried about with DOT regulations for doing this? Ex: HOS, Paperwork, off-duty driving, driving as a personal vehicle. Any advice would be appreciated.

Why not ask your company to send a load with you?

Assuming the new truck will be registered/insured, you just need to run a log book and run legal. Stop at POE's. Not sure if N.M. or Co. is easier to pass thru with the least hassle.
