Can anybody tell me if they liked working as a chip truck driver? Do they pay hourly? Any info will be appreciated.

I was wondering about this too. By chip do you mean a chip company? Like driving for Frito-Lay or is this a trucking term that I don't know of yet?

There's a local job here, out overnight, then back 3 times per week. Sounds good, but was wondering how they're paid typically, etc.

If you're talking "wood" chip. I can't say what they pay in your neck of the woods.

But here, it varies from company to company. Most pay hourly. Some pay by the trip...IE $50 a load. In the past, many paid by weight...the driver took a chance of getting popped for being overweight :(

The DOT in our area has really cracked down on the recievers now. Offering them some VERY hefty fines for allowing a scale ticket to exceed 100K. That's provided the truck is permitted to haul 100K. Hence the hourly and per trip wage in our area now.

I haul chips (woodchips) but I'm a O/O . I'm paid salary unless I run something extra. The extra is paid by the load. All of the companies around here pay by the load. I'm on salary because I have a such a short haul feeding a Flakeboard plant. Running chips isn't bad at all. Some pay really really well, and some don't. Just call around and see who does. DOT looooves seeing you come down the road though.. and 9 times out of 10 hes gonna stop you and say hi. My company will pay your overweight tickets though. I enjoy being home every night as opposed to being out a few weeks at a time when I was running a skateboard OTR.
Any questions you have about it?

Forgot all about that LOL. These poor guys here get hammered by the DOT, along with anyone that remotely resembles a log hauler.

In the past around here, if I had to wait out a DOT check point. It's was as simple as waiting on one of the above to come by then follow them in.
