I have been thinking about getting in to trucking for a while. I signed up for swift school and should hear back soon for the over the phone interview, but im thinking they may not accept me. The things that may keep me out I had three drug charges 13 years ago, all of them were misdemeanor possession under 1/2 oz pot. The last year and a half I havent worked but havent lived off the goverment either used my own money. Lastly I was in a small fender bender three or so weeks ago, but was the other persons falt and his insurance had to pay me for damage. If I cant get into swift, are there other cdl schools I could try that may let me in?
Will I be able to get a trucking job

Post your location on your profile; city/state.
The only problem I see, from what you posted, is the long period of unemployment.
Some states, the unemployment office pays for CDL school. If Swift doesn't accept you, try the unemployment office and keep us up to date on your progress.Tonythetruckerdude Thanks this. -
Any school will accept you for your money.. it is finding a company to hire you that is the issue...
you should first find the companies you want to work for and call them to find out if they would hire you then ask them to recommend a cdl school that they would accept.
chinatown is correct that many states will pay for the school.Tonythetruckerdude Thanks this. -
Yea I was going to go to sage school but then got worried if anyone would hire me. I worked a job for two and a half years before that uninployment streak which I did a good job im sure my boss liked me. The only problem is they let the whole night shift go and worked there through a temp service, so not sure if my boss is even there any more, or how to reach them. I just gave them the temp service number but they wouldnt know if i was good worker or not.

Asheville, NC good to go for jobs. Don't worry, go to Sage if you can and also check Goodwill Industries website; they have free CDL school in North Carolina. Some schools may want pre-hire letters before they let you enroll and that's no problem either. There's several companies that will give you pre-hire letters. Some schools may want 3 pre-hire letters.

Thanks for the advice, I will try whatever I need to. Swift said they would call within 24 to 48 hr's but has been a day longer then that. I forgot to say I have a job atm selling at&t services, so not sure unimployment would pay for me. I have only had this job for a month though.

Give Swift a call to check on your application. Their training is real good.

Don't list the misdemeanors unless they ask you too.

They did ask me to or I wouldnt have. I called and they said my background check hasnt cleared yet is why they havent called back for last over the phone thing. My grandad and uncle were truckers at one time, not sure why it has took me so long to give it a try.

Apply to a couple more as a backup.
Midwest-Coast Transport (MCT)
Millis Transfer (need $500.00)
Southern Refrigerated Transport
Swift will probably take you though.Truckingbiker Thanks this.
