So I have applied to a few companies that offer sign on bonuses.... One in particular US Express is offering a $3,000 sign on bonus....
So what's the catch? Do I have to sign a 10 yr. contract or something?? Will I have to pay it back if I leave early..? Do I actually get this amount, or like only 1/2 of it after tax deductions...?!? Do I get this after x amount of time working for the company...!?!? Should I spend it all on beer and hookers...??!??!
What's the catch... it's one of those things that seems "too good to be true."

Most companies it's not a lump sum; it's spread out over a few months. You get it as you earn it. If you quit, you don't owe anything because you get the bonus after you earn it.
It could be in payments monthly/quarterly, etc.
Decker Truck Line is offering $4,000.00 for reefer & flatbed division. They sometimes hire a few new CDL graduates.Wild Murphy and Highway Hypnosis Thank this. -
Most sign on bonuses are paid monthly. Over a period of several years. They pay like $150.00 a month on the same day each month, like the 15th. Each company is different. If you leave the company, payments end. Ask your recruiter for details.
Depends on the hookers. Beer first.Highway Hypnosis, Skydivedavec and Wild Murphy Thank this. -

Might want to check , they are usually in truth " retention bonuses " , you get them once you've stayed and they are paid out over time .
They have it set up to prevent drivers from doing the take the money thingHighway Hypnosis Thanks this. -

One school of thought, if the company has to pay signing bonuses, they probably suck to work for. The good companies don't have to pay signing bonuses and can typically pick and choose who they want to hire because they have a list of drivers wanting to sign on with them.

So the sign on bonus is actually a scam... most companies will pay you a quarterly bonus for your entire career; these companies will pay you a bonus for only the initial amount they advertise.
