I've posted about getting a job as a newbie driver and have a couple companies of interest. I'm going to get my cdl a fast as they will sign me up. My question was I've been welding for about 12 years anything from tig, mig, and stick have done aerospace and structural with some pipe welding thrown in the mix.
Are their any companies that would consider that am asset?
I live in fl but more then willing to relocate for a decent opportunity.
Thanks
would being a certified welder help with job possibilities?

sealiftcommand website; they would probably love to hire you.
Welding certificates probably wouldn't help in truck driving jobs.
There's some very good companies that will hire you from CDL school if you have endorsements; hazmat/tanker plus TWIC and a passport.
Here's some good companies; start the applications as early as the first day of CDL school classes:
SVTN
Superior Carriers
Trimac Transportation
Tidewater Transit
CTL Transportation
Schneider Bulk
All these companies hire new CDL graduates even if the website has different. -

See what they say. Ask about pay and housing for your skill set. Good luck to you. -
Forget trucking. Pipeline welder you'd be high dollar.
pattyj, Wild Murphy and already gone Thank this. -

Yea no tolerance. Or you could be a teamsters. But mistakes are not acceptable either. Good luck. Ive got a pipeline to build.
already gone Thanks this. -
Pipeline would be great, but its one of those jobs that you have to know somebody to be able to get a job in it. Unfortunately i don't know anyone that does it.
I'll check out the oilfield.okiedokie and Wild Murphy Thank this. -
i dunno about that, i worked a union pipeline repair job as a teamster, and the guy i worked with that travelled with the company said that in big pipeline areas, you could just about walk onto the jobsite, ask the foreman, and get hired, if they need hands... the problem comes from there not being a seniority list at the hall for random pipeline and construction jobs anymore, most guys just work for one company, and thats it....
okiedokie Thanks this. -
When I went out to Texas to look around, I went to one company asking about O/O opportunities and I mentioned I did some welding, the shop foreman asked to see my work (it was posed on my friends website at the time) and they wanted me to work right then and there but I wasn't going to do that work in the shape I was in at that time. I'm an ok welder but not good enough to me to be doing it as a job.
