If you can't leave the state, that is really going to limit your job possibilities for driving. But don't give up. Sometimes, and it really depends on being in the right place at the right time, you can find a local outfit such as aggregate hauling, or even trash companies that might be willing to train you. They may start you out in some other job, but if you work well, they might help you get your CDL-A. Just be straight with them, and let them know your limitations.

Sometimes the LTL freight companies will hire you for dock work, then give you a chance at driving. But here is where your inability to leave the state may really hold you back.

How long are you gonna be on Parole?

OK, figure that is the minimum length of time you need to work for a local outfit. But it may be tough to get hired on with a lot of companies, with a felony conviction, depending on what it is. But there are a number of folks on here with felony convictions that are able to find trucking jobs. Of course it will depend on what you were convicted of. Lots of folks have screwed up, but gone on to find decent jobs. Good luck.

OBTW, I'm not a "bleeding heart." I'm a retired cop with over 20 years in LE, but I know that folks make mistakes.

Why the need for a CDL?

Get a job at IKEA, or someplace.

Contact PI&I Motor Express in Masury, Ohio

They may still have a program they started, hiring parolees right out of prison.
