I've always wanted to drive but had many obstacles to overcome in my life. I've had 6 felonies over 10 years ago for drugs but since became a substance abuse counselor for the same company for past 8 years. I've read so many different people state you can get a job and you can't get a job. How can I truly find out. I make a decent living now and I have a security clearance with the military. My husband also has several felonies, the last being almost 7 years old and we want to team. What is the chance of getting hired by a decent company?

You'll get hired, I'm pretty sure of that but........"decent company" I doubt it. Here's what you can look forward to as a solo driver....Crappy company because of your crappy history, weeks probably months on the road living like a gypsy before you get home, and probably grossing around $650 a week. Still sound interesting? Oh and by the way, with your criminal history you will probably never get hired by a company that pays at the top of the pay scale. Could I be all wrong? Sure, but I've seen this many times before. Don't waste your time or money, find another line of work.

If you're making a decent salary now, you'll be SHOCKED to learn that you'll make a decent salary driving, without any of the perks and labor law protections that you're currently used to all while working twice as many hours and spending an amazing amount of your paycheck sustaining yourself on the road.

The best answer I can give is that yours and your husband's past does come into play in an industry where the employee is entrusted with hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of equipment and cargo. You may end up finding employment but you may also just be wasting your time. Only you can choose whether or not to take that gamble.

That is probably your best chance since Husband and Wife Teams are a prized commodity in the Reefer side of the industry.

There's a few companies that run teams and also hire felons. You will need to attend a CDL school first though. Some CDL schools want felons to have pre-hire letters before allowing them to enroll; reason being the school wants to know you are employable before letting you waste your money and time.

Put your location on your profile; sometimes a driver sees your location and may have the inside track on jobs there.

Thanks to everyone who has responded with advise and suggestions. Greatly appreciated! like I said I've always wanted to drive a big truck and have some history with them as a rider but I want to drive and I love talking on the cb.lol I won't drive though unless my husband can get hired as well and we can team so wish me luck and I will continue to research. No real hurry because like I said, I make a decent living but he really needs a trade and with his background, I thought this would be great for both of us. I've also read where the Oil industry hires felons with cdls fairly east to get hired.

Sorry to keep coming back onto the site but I've read that Schneider hires felons and they are located right here in Dallas. Any thoughts or suggestions regarding them?
