I got on with a road paving company holding a stop sign. They eventually needed more drivers and offered to send me up to take the tests. I passed and drove their dump trucks, tankers, and hauled equipment for them till I got the silly idea to go see the country.

Real vs Wanabee's !

Well here goes..I'm not here to start a fight..I just have a habit of looking at both sides of a conversation..

I was a Printer for 30 years, I brought home Very good $$ at the end of the week, but it took YEARS !! to get to that point, and I had to start out as a Rookie, and knew I was a Rookie and had to put up with the #### they go through in the beginning.
but in time, they quit giving me ####, and the started seeing me as one of them, and to be honest, I have No Clue when that was, and I don't remember when I started calling my self a Printer, it just happened over time..
I have seen alot of Rookies come and go, as well as seen some of the Rookies become a Printer, and they put up with all the #### same as I did.
I trained my Son to run a Printing Press, also My Wife.
and I gave them both ####...lol.. But thats just part of the Game..
WE ALL Payed our dues..those that are in this just for the Money, wont be here when they have a chance to make More $$ doing something else.
I'm doing this because it's something I have wanted to do all my working life, really before then. I was given a chance to do this, and I took it.
I Fully Expect to Catch #### from the Old timers, No Big Deal. I know it will happen.
the real difference between me and some others out there, is I will try to help the New Guys in time, when I feel I can, and in time I will give them some #### too, but it won't be to hurt them, or Make them feel bad..they will do that to them self when they make a mistake.
but it's all in the way you Rib someone about a mistake that matters.
Don't intentionally degrade someone for being a noob, Sure..Laugh with them, and then help if ya can, if ya can't help, then you must be at the same point in your learning curve as they are !!
Just Joke with them, and help if ya can, but don't try to make your self look like a Pro, by degrading someone with less Experience then you.
It will just make us all laugh At the so called Pro, and you'll be the real joke.
If that makes ya feel good about your self, and you think it's ok to do this, I Feel Sorry for your children, and grand children.
So..we were all NooB,s at one point in our life..what separates us is there are some that have forgotten those day's.

So go ahead and Slam me, the NooB..I can take it, because I remember,
and it will just make me more willing to help the new guy when I'm not some day.

I live in Paulding county and am currently getting my CDL at North Metro Tech, they accept the Hope Grant and its an 8 week class. The instruction is great and I guarantee alot better than the 3 week at some of them company classes. Oh and your not bound to them for a year. As for Werner I was approved for them like as soon as I gave them my name but was warned away by many of people I have met.

Hey Baylen, my truck driver training class is 8 weeks also (here in NC at a community college). I am actually glad it's going to take me 8 weeks to finish the course. I think I'll be much better prepared to start training with a company when I've spent nearly 400 hours in the classroom, driving course and out on the road.

I looked across NC and SC for schools. I found everything from 3 weeks to 8 weeks but in the end, I got really lucky. I found one that was only 40 miles from my home, it's got a terrific reputation and costs less than $800.

Good luck and keep us up to date on how things are progressing!

Here is another trucking job site and it has an awful lot of companies. Add the 3w's everytruckjob.com just click on search jobs then position, state and most important the more options button!

Moodtone, Fl is a hard state to look for jobs in or actually for those OTR drivers from ou of state it's hard to get a GOOD rate to get out of. But go to that site and you'll see there are a ton of companies there just research them but I will tell you being over 50 you'll have a harder time getting hired BUT being a "newbe" you just might be lucky!
