There are a lot more stores going out of business so doesn't that mean less trucks needed for deliveries ? Haven't you read the articles about applications piling up at trucking companies because there are far more applicants than openings ? It's tough enough for an experienced trucker to try to stay employed . You have it right saying leave the job to professionals . There is still a need for professionals . The only need for newbies is to fill the seat of a truck that got abandoned by another rookie that got a reality check . Entering the industry with no experience is a foolish , irresponsible decision .
Well, thanks for calling me and another couple thousend people who trying to pay their bills and feet their kids, foolish and irresponsible, WAY TO GO !!

This guy is always doom & gloom about everything. I think he's afraid someone is going to take his job. Good luck in your search. Things will get better and there is always room out there for quality people.

No fear there . My boss doesn't hire rookies . There's always room for quality trucking school graduates in the welfare lines . The ones that foolishly quit jobs to try to be Billy Bigrigger don't qualify for unemployment,, do they ? Do you deny there are increasing numbers of drivers losing their jobs and increasing numbers of students graduating ? How much logic does it take to figure out there just aren't jobs for many of those students . Yeah , it's a real responsible thing for a family man to do . The few that get jobs don't make enough to support a single person .

The rumer is that because of the frieght slow down Knight Trans is looking to cut cost. The average truck is doing about 1000 miles a week. Some say they are looking at closing some of there 23 terminals. If you look at where they are, most are with in 500 miles of the next.

Most have said they are lucky to clear $300 to $400 a week for some time after starting. And what I have read that's after all the training and you're on your own.
Yup , Mama's gonna be real proud of you making that kind of pay while leaving her home with all the respnsibility .

I wish these truckers at the truckstops would get this info so I could find a place to park after 17:00, or the countless # of jobless folks I sit behind stuck in traffic on nearly a daily basis. Nationwide unemployment rate is what 8.1 wow!!! We're really having it tough aren't we.

Half those truckers have probably been sitting there a couple of days waiting to get another load to get their 1,000 miles in for the week .
What chance do newbies have ?

Richard Bateman, 62, was at the EDD office looking into a job with the National Council on Aging. A Class A truck driver and licensed bus driver, he was recently one of 200 people who applied for a single trucking position at a valley employer. He didn't get the job.
The company was so deluged with job applicants, in fact, "they had to run an ad in the paper saying the job was filled," he said.
Bateman added, "I'd be happy to get a minimum-wage job, 40 hours."

200 applicants , probably most of them experienced for a single job .

I agree with some having it tough, I also say that just because someone can't find the job they want or even qualified for dose not mean there are no jobs available. My point is when we're on are CELL phone complaining about how bad things are that they may just not be bad as we think. When is the last time you drove by an empty walmart parking lot or tried to find parking at the mall on the weekend or didn't have to wait in line on friday night to get into outback? That's all I'm saying......I mean seriously a housing crisis when over 92% of mortgage holders pay theirs ontime? It is not as bad as we are led to believe. I know we all have tried to be trained that we are all victims and have no control over are own well being but I just can't buy that.
