I lost mine. Do they just need your social security number or do you have to bring the card. I just ordered a new birth certificate. Will my birth certificate and my CDL be good enough for employment?
do prospective companies need your Social Security card?

Never think giving your employer your ssn will be good enough, they need to make copy of your card for their records. But if you don't have your card your birth certificate should be fine. Also they may require you to bring your social security card next time you get home.
zoekatya Thanks this. -
Go to the SS office and apply for a new one, they will give you a paper saying you have applied for a new one....should be sufficient. Ask the company to be sure.
ncmickey, zoekatya and OldHasBeen Thank this. -
i've never shown my DL or SS card untill the day i start and am filling out my w-2's.
but that's just the way it's worked for me. i'm sure some of you will have had different experiences.
i think i had to supply my birth certificate for schooling though. can't remember on that one. and if i did, it would be the only one. i stay away from megas.zoekatya Thanks this. -
They are supposed to require that you furnish three pieces of identification under Federal law.

Mine needed my card.

A few drivers have posted they were sent home during orientation for not having an original Social Security Card; photo copy won't do.

Direct Quote from IRS I-9 form "Employers CANNOT specify which document(s) they will accept from an employee."
I've never given an employer my SS card. They get the #, not the card. -
People have been sent home from orientation and told not to return without it.
