Last Friday morning, as I was driving I turned my wipers off, but they kept going. Was a bit tired so turned on and then all way off but kept going and eventually stopped about 30 seconds later. Kept driving to delivery point. Hit Welcome Center on 26 in South Carolina. Stop for break, smell something burning. Turned truck off and pulled key out of ignition. Truck kept running though I was holding keys in my hand. All my electronics start shorting out. I have a 2011 Freightliner. Turned off power to batteries. Turned back on 10 seconds later. Doing same thing. Turn battery kill switch off. Call company. Was off for like 30 to 40 mins. Was sent to shop. Everything worked fine on way to shop, though still faint burning smell. Shop looked 7 hours couldn't find anything but small fuel leak. Truck seems to be running fine. Anny ideas why my truck would run while ignition off and keys in my hand???

Not saying this is the problem, but sometimes when an alternator goes bad, strange things happen to an electrical system. My alternator,in the car, started going bad. The radio would come on when it was off. The high beams would come on when they were on low beam.
It would start going bad at nighttime. I drove 24 miles home at night with the high beams on. Needless to say, that was a long 24 miles. -
Did you do the full pre trip??

We had an 08 Freightliner that did something similar. Turned the truck on after fueling. Audible for low air came on but air pressure was fine. Lights wouldn't come on. Then it started raining and I had no wipers and the radio wouldn't shut off. Drove the 30 miles or so back to our yard and had the shop look at it. They had it for a few hours and couldn't figure out what was wrong with it. In their words, it was possessed. They couldn't figure it out and had to assign us a different truck to get us on the road again. So in saying all that, no idea what is wrong other than to say it could be possessed. LOL!!

I had a gremlin in my truck like that. Like mentioned above, my alternator was overcharging batteries (pre computer engine). I could smell the acid cooking while driving. Truck wouldn't shut off until I disconnected batteries. Changed batteries, alternator and some cables. Worked fine.
Also had a truck that used to have a Qualcomm installed. When the last owner removed it they just cut the cable at the floor. When the ends corroded and wires started to short, I can't tell you all the strange things that started to happen. Point is check for any wires that are shorting. Good luck
