I'm posting about my bf. From the beginning of our relationship he has known I don't want to date a truck driver. He said no problem he doesn't want to be a truck driver. He doesn't even like driving that much. He hates reading and writing. His dad was a trucker for 30 years and he was an amazing man. He recently passed away and everyone has now convinced my bf he needs to take over his dads legacy by driving truck. My bf has decided to get his cdl but I'm concerned he's making an emotional decision and not thinking it through. He made the decision without even talking to me so I'm just kinda at a loss. How do I get him to understand it wont be like his dad at the beginning...like I said his dad drove for 30 years! He thinks he can just go out get his cdl and make money like his dad.

is your bf willing to put in 30 years like pops did? cuz pops more then likely had to pay his dues. he didn't just start making money right off the bat.

you can either accept his decision, or he can ignore yours. or you 2 can talk about it. see what's in store for the future and see if that's what you both want. but if he's already planning without your blessing. that's probably not a good sign.

maybe cut him some slack, and let him be, he may not like the lifestyle after all. it takes a LOT to put up with this industry. more so these days then years past.

Well, he can just go out and make good money like his dad. It's all in the planning. He can make $50K easily after all training is complete. He can make much more than that if he's determined and gets all the endorsements and TWIC.

Put your location on your profile.

I hardly think I'm being whiny but sure ok. My concern was he wasn't putting actual thought into it but I guess that didn't come across. He's not making any plans at all. I've told him I will support what he decides (i guess that's me being whiny) but like I said I just want him to know what he's getting into. He's not weighing pros and cons.

Does he want private, community college or trucking company CDL school?
Community college schools are very cheap and he can pick and choose which company he wants to work for.

Millis Transfer is a good trucking company CDL school. $500 dollars tuition to get started.

If you live near Willard, OH then look at Dutch Maid; free CDL training.

This is what I'm saying...no plans. He thinks he can just go out and get his cdl...study take a test and boom done.

In the old days, yes. Those days are over. Insurance companies now require formal training.

Apply to the state unemployment office for tuition assistance or go to a trucking company CDL school such as the two I posted.

Well if you dont want to be with a trucker, i dont blame you it is a lonely life for the one left at home, either get your cdl and go with him, or get a new bf. or buy an electric blanket for cold lonely nights.
