Have you ever been unemployed ?

I've never been unemployed unless you count 24-48 hours between trucking jobs. Takes that long to get the paperwork/interview done for the new job.

 

I have never been a day without work in 33 years that I didn't want to be .

 

The problem with American trucking jobs is the fact wages haven't kept up with inflation. Trucking no longer pays a LIVING WAGE.
And much of this has been brought on by the mass invasion of the FOREIGN IMMIGRATE trucker's coming to America on promises of the high paying trucking job.

Come on Pete, I think you're smarter than this. Immigrants do drive down wages. Why are rates out of Chicago to the west coast low? Because of all the Eastern Europeans, why are southern California wages lower than in most other parts of the country?

 

You change the subject to call me a name.
I believe these immigrants are being exploited at our expense.
Maybe study some history especially around 1980 when Russia was having its problems and America was flying them over by the thousands and many going straight into the trucking industry.

WOW, all over the place here. 1st, I've been unemployed since 2006 (last trucking job, as well), due to lifestyle choice( house bf) but that's come to a screeching halt, so I'll be doing something soon, might be trucking, there are so many jobs. To klaman, I can only go by what's on CL as an indicator of the trucking job situation, and say a few short years ago, there were maybe 50 postings in my area, and just the other day, there were 179 transport openings.(almost 300 in Chicago) That's incredible, and every single company you can think of has an ad there. There is indeed a shortage of drivers and I feel those postings reflect that. I don't feel immigrants are driving down wages, but they aren't helping to increase them either. These people come from countries where they live in straw huts (with 2 other families), to them this is paradise at .29 cpm. Like it or not, it's here to stay.
