question about the cab

My fiance is a new driver for TMC and is getting his own truck today (finished his five weeks of trainning on Friday). I'm not familiar with the trucks and would like to make being away from home a little easier on him. So to make it more liveable what do you recommend getting? ie:microwave?
Thanks so much

I'm not familiar with TMC's policies regarding this. Your fiance should've been made aware what is or isn't allowed to be in his truck. To have a microwave will require a large power inverter that will have to be wired directly to the battery. Most large companies only allow a power inverter that can be plugged into a cigarette lighter (approx. 400 watts would be the maximum for this set-up). This leaves only about enough wattage to power a TV/DVD combo and maybe a laptop or gaming system (Playstation, NES, etc.). I would recommend he get a 12 volt cooler. These are available at most Wal-Marts and truckstops. They typically sell for about $70-$110 for a 40 quart model. They do good for keeping drinks and food chilled, but won't keep items frozen. Also, I'd highly recommend getting a satellite radio, if it's in your budget. I've got Sirius and can't imagine how I ever trucked without it!

Absolutely about the sat radio.

Some times you can find 12v warming ovens/crock pots. A small propane gas fired camping grill can also be used for things like hotdogs, brats, steaks and burgers.

Get a picture of you to hang up in his bunk and some cozy bedding to give him a good night's sleep.

Thanks for the advice. I'll check out Walmart for the cooler. I believe TMC has the sirus radios available for their trucks (at your expense).
My children and I are moving down to S.C. on Friday. We haven't seen him in five months so we're excited. I thought maybe I'd order some things online so they will be there for him when he gets home this weekend (I hope he's home this weekend).
Thanks again for the imput. This is a whole new world to me, trucking that is.

We're moving to Lexington, S.C. I've never been to South Carolina before and I've only lived in Michigan so I'm having a lot of new adventures in my life lately. I'm hoping to love it there.
