Hi everyone, I have a question: so let's say on average you get paid 0.35-0.40 per mile, but as we know, living in New York City is more expensive than Memphis (I'm just picking a cheaper city, that's all). So, if you live in NYC do you get paid more or the same as a truck driver in Memphis ?

    Chinatown Thanks this.

if you do local or regional work... then yes you do get paid more
.50+ plus I've seen for Northeast regional.

Can't get that in Memphis then again it does costs boat loads of money to live in Memphis

OTR pay is the same all over the country. Local or hourly pay may differentiate due to cost of living in some area. Best advice is live in a lower cost of living area and keep more of your paycheck. I've lived in states with no personal income tax, ie. Florida, Tennessee, Nevada. Low cost of living and cheap houses/condos in those states.

or go OTR and don't have house.. but claim a house in a state with no state income tax.

then you can really start cashing in

it feels silly for pay for a home you're rarely at anyway

I've known drivers that did just that and had boat loads of money in the bank plus real estate holdings. I moved to Nevada from Tennessee when the bottom dropped out of housing market. Bought a home I could never afford under normal circumstances. Always had to keep a house due to family to take care of.

    klaman and freightwipper Thank this.
