And i still find myself complaining about the pay being too low and am overall unsatisfied with it. I never thought it could happen to me. I thought all of the truckers complaining were just pampered middle class brats who never grew up.
Now i see, and it cannot be unseen.
i am making over 2 times more than i have ever made in my life...

Maybe it's not the pay, but how you budget your money.
Your first year of driving (right?) and you're complaining about your paychecks..
WHY should they pay more when you're still a newb? -
All I look at is what goes into my bank account each week/month.
Sometimes sacrifices in other areas have to be made for the good pay.
Friend of mine was a merchant seaman making $100,000.00 a year tax free, but only home a few days a year. His ship was hauling supplies to Vietnam. His wife had a fair/mediocre job. He did this for 10 years straight and never spent a penny of his pay; it went straight into his bank account. With interest, he was well over a millionaire when he quit the Merchant Marines after 10 years. As soon as he quit the Merchant Marines, he joined the Navy with the goal of doing 20 years and retiring. He did it. 30 yrs. of hard work and sacrifices and now he's set for life. When he retired,he wasn't even old enough to draw Social Security, so he still had that to look forward to. He sacrificed a lot to reach his goal, but was successful.
Keep it in perspective. Success to one person is failure to another. Truck drivers can be very successful if they don't job hop throughout their whole career and take full advantage of whatever retirement package a company offers. Stay away from the fancy expensive toys and think of whatever you want in retirement, such as warm beaches with palm trees and doing this at an early age. -
I spent a lot of money on booze and women and the rest I just spent foolishly.

However, I calm myself down before I get too far out of line, because I know that it all comes out in the wash. As a company driver I've had what I consider to be REALLY good weeks, and I've had what I consider bad weeks (less than $1,000). It's on these bad weeks that I have to remind myself that there will be good weeks coming up that will make up for it, and that I got to spend a lot of much-needed time at home that week.
Overall, I'm very happy with what I get paid, the home time, the equipment we run, and the people I work for and with. Can't ask for any more than that.SheepDog, BrenYoda883, passingthru69 and 2 others Thank this. -
Can't even convince most of todays high school sophmore's that 7 years of preparation could very well set them for life.Wild Murphy, ONESHOT1997, dennisroc and 1 other person Thank this.
