I was just watching this http://www.thetruckersreport.com/truckerreport.html and I was really surprised to see Mississipi is actually number 1 since the cost of living is lower than New York (number 3 on the list). How come is that ?Is there anything special about Mississipi's trucking industry ?I'm just asking since I know there are a lot of experienced drivers here that might know the answer. Cheers
Also, may I ask another question ? How come LTL drivers are the highest paid ones ?What does it mean to be a LTL driver ?

I suspect the data in the report or the report itself is flawed. No reason I can think of that would put MS at the top of the average truck driver gross wages list. Maybe a lot of pulp wood haulers who are owner-ops don't have sense enough to know gross business income is not gross wages?

LTL is less than truckload. Take a customer who only needs a pallet or two delivered or shipped. They load the trailer with several of these customers. Generally lots of stops, might have to hump some freight. Usually involves more city driving and often tight backing situations.

There is no breakdown between straight truck class "B" and articulated semi Class "A" so perhaps New York has more class "B" drivers that are home every night.
I have never seen any statics gathered where the income is averaged to the nearest thousand dollars so why is that? -
Mississippi, Wyoming, New York?
Makes no sense. -

Maybe someone here can illuminate. -
Wyoming, I understand. Most there are who are "truck drivers" are driving in the oil patch and making real good hourly money, you could probably count the mega dry van truckers living in WY on two hands. New York, I mostly understand. MS? No, don't understand.

Financially, Mississippi has been ranked 50th amongst US states for such a long time. That list can't be right.
