I see some threads here that you cant just "Get your CDL on your own" that you have to go to school, my buddy Danny is interested, So i thought i ask you guys, if he doesnt have the money, and his school loans are messed up, and theres no funding for the state.. he has no other option for getting a CDL but on his own, I'd say he gets his CDL's and calls a training company like Millis Transfer, tell them hes got his cdls and needs training.. maybe the'll take him on afterwards.
what do you guys think.. I doubt the'll take him on without a CDL.. because maybe they have better candidates (like those with a CDL) lol.
Tough world we live in..

I have seen schools that are charging less for the practice test, if you already have the skills to operate a semi truck. It is for ex CDL holders that did loose their license for some reason. In 2008 when I was getting my CDL, in the group there was a "student" with 20+ Experiance, who has DUI violation. He was paying only for the practice exam. For sure He was better driver than our instructors. He did everything on the first take.Big Rig Boi Thanks this. -
Call around to the local trucking companies...I'm sure some of them would be willing to help. Maybe they have a yard tractor/junky trailer that they're willing to loan out for a couple hours. Who knows?

yeah he can probably use me, but im for a company, so ill help him find someone.
but do you think he's employable i mean with the cdl and no school experience? Like i was saying, maybe he can train with a company after he gets his cdl, with their school.. I mean Im thinking they just want initiative (companies) to get a CDL on his own and then they will give him the ok to come on board.. it will save him $4-5,000 dollars on some scammy school and go straight to a company -
Millis will send them to their own school as well, if I recall correctly, its $500 up front, then after completion, you agree to a set amount of time to stay with them. Then they forgive the cost of the school. As far as the rest, what verdel started is pretty much how its done for some. If he meets the requirements he might look into wia.

he's called Millis, they said the choose "better candidates" they didn't give the reason behind that.. for some reason.
so now, he's fed up on all these rejections, Dan figures if he gets the CDL on his own, some companies will take him seriouslyChinatown Thanks this. -
He doesn't need a CDL, just a CDL permit from the DMV.
After he gets his permit then many trucking companies will hire him to attend their CDL training for the actual hard copy CDL. Tell him to study the CDL Practice Tests which can be accessed at the top of this page.knuckledragger, Gunner75, gpsman and 1 other person Thank this. -
Most of the megas will either force him to go to their school and get on the hook for their loan or only accept him if he has a certificate from a recognized trucking school. Might have some luck with the smaller companies but most of them don't have trainers to ride along with.

hmm, maybe thats what he was missing..

He wants to go to the megas schools, but they wont accept him so far.. I told him you might have to get your CDL on your own, and the'll take you seriously, and then i brought it to this forum, because, im not sure what he should do. because going to a school that cost 4-5 grand, he doesnt have that money, and nobodys gonna give it to him, when he's screwed himself so much.. I believe in second chances. I just wonder how he's gonna do it
