I got my CDL A 3 years ago. My first two Years I drove flat be in he north east an loved it!
Right now I'm just driving a dump truck just out side of Philadelphia. I find it a bit easy and not pushing my abilities. To keep the story short, I'm from Maine. Grew up always working on my own trucks, cats, boat's.
Anyway, the truck stopped in Philly, met up with a old class mate and have a baby on the way.
Thats why I went to driving local dump truck.

My goal is to buy a truck and hopefully try to pick up my own North east route's.
Where would be a good place to look for north east work?
Also how much of a problem is it going to be since I'm just driving dump truck now?

    Chinatown Thanks this.

Probably just go through a trucking company refresher course. Many companies offer this and most will require the refresher since you've been driving a dump truck vs 18 wheeler.

OOIDA website will show the business end of owning a truck and the details of how to proceed.

I would need a refresher even if I buy my own truck?
I have been back to the school a couple times. They have been good and allowed me to sit in on the log book class for free.

Whatever you do, the key is going to be limiting yourself to a bare minimum how much you stop to "meet up" with old class mates. :biggrin_25523:

Hi bow2no1, you say "just" driving a dump truck, like it's a less than desirable trucking job. I did many gig's driving a dump truck, and I thought it was one of the better gig's out there. You have somewhat regular hours, you don't burn a lot of fuel and you are close to home "when", not "if" something happens with the family, and believe you me, stuff WILL happen with a family, and you need to be around for the family stuff. It goes by quick, and I missed a lot of things you can't relive, not to mention, longer distance trucking will most assuredly cook your marriage. Buy a dump truck, there's a ton out there, you'll be better off, trust me.

I agree, I can get in to dump truck work fairly easily. I believe so anyway. My problem is that I have no family here and all my resources are in Maine. In pa I would have to buy a piece of property or rent for truck repair/maintenance and storage.

Lol, I was hauling lobster bait from Jersey to pa. A lot of times I was stuck in Jersey because the boat's couldn't go out because of weather. Just happens she works in Nj not far from where I parked the truck. So we hooked up.
We got married last year on the beach where we met.

    Actually, no. It was catered.
I had to play by their rules. I have been a commercial lobstermen my whole life up until I got my CDL. I can get lobster cheap. I wasn't going to pay their high prices. Knowing what boat price is.
