Ok so i'm from Brooklyn, 27 yrs old married with 2 young kids (3yrs & 1yrs) i currently posses a NYS Class B XPS license and driving school buses at the moment just to build some sort of experience as well as finish obtaining my Class A i'm trying to look for something in the Northeast to start off with i've done some research and seen companies like Swift, C.R. England, Werner, Stevens Transport and Prime inc. being mentioned a lot as far as training goes and to start off with. Ultimately I would like to move my family to the New England area sometime in the near future (thinking New Hampshire or Vermont) but I want to know what companies are best for what I'm looking for in terms of growing as a professional driver and being paid well to where my cost of living in NY is comfortable at the moment cause when i do decide to move i'm hoping it won't be a hassle in terms of paper work and cost of living difference due to where i would have to move to specifically.....this all sounds confusing which i do apologize for but i hope some one can tackle one thing at a time for me and help me it's just becoming a lil overwhelming trying to do it all on my own thanks

I think Prime runs all over Northeast area. I know they hire in areas in the far Northeast where other companies don't. Also talk to Schneider; they may pay for CDL Class-A school. Schneider tanker division has some good paychecks.

I understand your concerns about the moving issues. Here's a couple of websites that we spent hours on when deciding where to relocate.

    Redfin
    city-data

Redfin will show were the homes/apt/condo's are to rent or buy and also the schools those homes are zoned for. The schools are rated which helps locate in the zone that has the best schools. We spent hours on those websites and it paid off. Takes a while to match best schools to affordable place to live.

are you sure you want to get into trucking with two young kids at home?
LTL is your only chance at being home.. or maybe a local tanker job but you'll need experience for that.

of all those companies you posted.. they all pay terrible except for Prime.

stay in brooklyn or jersey and apply for trucking company that move containers. Home almost everyday and weekends with same pay as those big carriers. Once you join the big carrier you will only see your kids grow up through pictures.

Thank you guys for all the info and inputs it definitely helps with my search it's not to say i really want to be away from home from my family but i understand that a lot of companies do look for experienced drivers and im willing to suck it up for a year or 3 to be able to do LTL or look for companies that deal with containers i just dnt want to go those companies unprepared and waste time but at the same time i would like to have the career already started and know what areas besides brooklyn that i can get an idea about that im guaranteed work in the New England area

I guess basically what i'm asking is what do you guys suggest is the best way to get my feet wet in the industry and with what company as far as gaining experience? And also where in the new england area or north east is good to move once i've gained the experience to do LTL or join a company that deals with containers?

Look I do understand I had two girls and it was the hardest thing I did back then. But that is the number 1 reason newbies quit trucking that is way everyone is telling you to look in your area for LTL. Once you have your CDL A ask the recruiters everything you wish and any promises get it in writing before you sign on to them. Once your training is done and one yr under your belt most will give you a try. Their is a large shortage of drivers and will be for a long time so this why I said that most will give you a try. I had 3 students that only had 9 months under them and they got on with companies that listed 2 or more yr exp.
the number one rule is KEEP your License clean, don't risk it for any one or company.
