Thumbs up Newbie checking in.....

Starting a Trucking career as I was downsized from my $20 an hour Factory job after 28 year's of service. Yup......ya all heard the story before. All that is around here are $7 to $8 an hour part time job's. Being single one would think I could get by on that. No way........

Haven't gotten too far yet. Just got back from taking my "temp" exam's at the DMV......with puzzling result's.....

I got 90% on General Knowledge....
90% on Combination Vehicle's.....
And got a 100% on Tanker!!

But for some reason I zoned out on the Airbrake test. Now I need to go back and do it again. Only 67% on that one. But with those "touchscreen test's" they do....who know's. If I had just lucked out on even just ONE of the question's I got wrong.....I may have just barely passed that one too!

Geez.....I certainly hope I don't have to do EVERYTHING twice in this line of work!! That could make for a very LOOOONG Career!! And I'm getting too old for that..."stuff".........

This site has helped me a LOT in knowing what to expect from this. I DID drive Yard Jockey and did some local work for the place I used to work for......20 odd year's ago.....before the CDL was required......so trucking isn't TOTALLY new to me.....but OTR will be new to me.....

Thank you for allowing me aboard!!!

I am beginning my second week on the road and am loving it. I just can not imagine going back to the daily grind of a regular work schedule. I am really enjoying that I am finally my own boss.

I know what you are speaking of Frankum......since I lost my high paying Factory job I have been with a Temp Agency........####### myself out to anyone who would have me. Sometime's I was the only one there who wasn't on Huber! Just mundane assembly of book's and stuff at a Graphic's company. I HATE it!!

At least with Driving 90% of the time you are on your own (with the other 10% being the bull that come's with ANY job!!)........but yes.....for the most part you ARE your own Boss!!! Just get the load there on time.....hopefully!!
