About 5 years ago I went through CDL school at FSCJ here in Jacksonville and was hired with Werner, completed training, and tested out. Me and four others were going to be sent in a van from Lakeland, FL to Ohio to pick up our trucks. Long story short I had an emergency regarding my child and never drove a day on my own for Werner. I've been at home working crappy warehouse jobs for the last five years, so now that things at home are straightened out and back to normal, I'm ready to get back on the road and pursue my trucking career.

Here's the problem, I downgraded my license to a regular class E(i know, big mistake) and I technically have no driving experience except for my two months at Werner. I just need some advice on how to upgrade back to a class A and what options I have in resurrecting my trucking career. Any advice from you guys is more than welcomed.

Instead of asking here your first call should be to your DMV about getting your class A back.

5 years...hmmm. I'm guessing you'll need a refresher course of so many hours and also a re-take of the exams for a permit. Then after so any hours in a refresher you'll need to retest for your license and then you'll get it back. That's just a guess but sounds some what right.

annnnnnd I'm thinking you'll most likely have to re-train with a trainer because 2 months isn't much experience but depending how low on the totum pole you go there could be a company willing to throw you right in a truck.

Your quickest way, would be to go back to school and start from the beginning.
Or go to your bmv, take the test, get your permit and start calling trucking compaines.

On the bright side, now companies are more in need than they ever have been.

Quickest way is 3 points of contact as you enter a truck.

Get hired at a company that trains his employees as drivers or simply go back to school. A couple thousand dollars later you will have your cdl back. Get the cdl permit first, will be cheaper.

I agree with the others. With no solo experience and a downgraded license, you'll probably have to start over from scratch.

Celadon has CDL school at no cost to you, free meals and lodging.

Florida has programs through the unemployment office for CDL training. Sometimes they send you through a community college program or private school such as Roadmasters.

Midwest-coast Transport headquartered in Auburndale has CDL training. 3 week school and free tuition if you drive for them a year.

I'll take my truck any day over being a zombie warehouse worker doing and seeing the same crap everyday.
