hello everyone
Today, for the first time got a penalty for overweight on the weight station. Please help me. Loaded in California, weight wrote me in documents 27000 pounds, did not weighed before leaving. In Arizona, a weight station I get a weight of 1 axle 12,080 2 - 33,740 3 - 38,240 and T - 84.060. Sent to the court. Advise the lawyer to whom I can contact that would help deal with the case. Can have the best law firm? For the first time in this situation. Than it threatens me? What amount of the fine can I get for it? Do I was certainly weigh in before leaving? In fact, i had always weighed , but loads were 40,000 pounds, and this time wrote 27,000 pounds and i don't did it.
Thanks

Don't ever trust the shippers weight. You are responsible for weight no matter what, always weigh. I don't know what the fine will be, but it can be very high.
Golga and BrenYoda883 Thank this. -
27,000 kg ? ..........

If I get a BOL for 27k I wouldn't weigh, but by the time I left the customers lot I'd probably feel something off and go weigh. Try to get a feel for the diff. Until you get a feel, just start scaling every load your unsure of. I'm curious to see the fine amount. If it's under $500 I'd just pay it. It's not a moving violation. And lawyer fees will jump up to $500 real quick. That is if your company doesn't cover it.
Golga Thanks this. -
Whenever I see I should have weighed but I didn't I loose all pity. Now if it was in between the shipper and closet scale that's a different story, I've been threatened with overweight before cause closet cat scale was 5 miles past the coop. Explained to them and showed bills and they sent me back to shipper.

Yep since nothing slides on my truck and as long as it's loaded evenly or a little back heavy and my gage reads under X amount I'm good. Still scale if unsure.
Golga Thanks this. -
Now I'll always be weighed before leaving. Not yet know the amount of the fine. Thank you all for your advice. This is a lesson for me
