Should have my cdl soon, was looking for some suggestions on some decent companies that would hire someone straight out of school. Driving record is good. Currently living in Sacramento, CA. Would prefer local, but could do some regional if necessary. Any suggestions?

Northern Refrigerated Transportation has a good reputation. They used to require 1 yr. experience, but a driver posted the other day he was hired right out of CDL school.

$80,000 a year CLASS A CDL COMPANY TANKER TRUCK DRIVER. Single Driver Operation. CLASS A TANKER COMPANY DRIVER REQUIREMENTS. Hire new CDL grads from certain schools.

    Jim Palmer Trucking - OTR
Roy Miller Freight Lines - local
    R&L Carriers - LTL & local
    Reddaway - LTL & local
Oak Harbor Freight Lines - OTR
McKesson Corp. - medical supplies delivery
    Indian River Transport - OTR
    Pride Transport - OTR
    Trillium - local $18.00 hr.
    Saladino's - local
    Blackwell Consolidation - OTR
    Phoenix Express Group - OTR
    Saia LTL Freight - local/regional
    Central Freight Lines - local
    Old Dominion - LTL
    Pacific Seafood Group - local
    Sysco - local

Ignore any "experience required" and apply anyway. If website has an online application, submit it, then follow with a phone call the next day. Some with terminals in Sacramento, just walk in and ask for an application and an interview. Many companies that recently required experience, are now hiring new CDL grads.

If you want to stay local and make good money call Button Trans in Dixon. I work for them. Great company. We have local and OTR trucks. Training is provided and you won't spend days or weeks sleeping in a truck with another driver. All training is done local and home every night. PM me if you want or need more info.

Hit up Cherokee Freight Lines in Stockton. If you have no experience they might hire you as a shop guy and yard truck driver.

At cherokee they will give you $15/hr and pay mostly straight time, 1.75hr for live load or unload, 30 minutes pay for drop and pick, detention pay at 15/hr after 30 minutes of waiting... It's Union so you would start on Sugar Transport of the Northwest. You get home most nights with weekends off. Hauling mostly wine. At 3 years that's the standard experience they require. You get raises through the union. You should have doubles and tanker endorsements. On a good week you can walk away with 1k easily. Also you get paid $40 per layover or a hotel if you have a day cab.
