Hey all,
I don't understand the Hours-of-Service Rule.
If my duty is from Monday to Thursday (50 hours) and then I am in home. Should I take 34 hours rest and then I can start duty on Sunday?
Or Can I drive on Friday and Saturday (new trip) +20 hours and then I should take 34 hours rest in the middle of my new trip.
The new rule says about 70 hours in 7 days. But my duty is 50 hours in 4 days. When should I take a 34 hours rest?
I'm confused.
Thank you,
Hours-of-Service Rule. Question.

That's up to you. You could take a 34 and then start the next trip with a fresh 70 after enjoying some home time or run out your 70 and then take a 34. It depends on your situation.
A couple of things to point out though.
It's not 70 hours in 7 days, it's 70 hours in 8 days. That works out to an average of 8.75 hours a day. A 34 hour reset is optional. So if up can average 8.75 a day you will never run out of hours.
If you do choose to do a 34 hour reset you need to know you can only do that once a week. The key to that is that you cannot start a reset until exactly one week (168 hours) after you started your last reset.
We'd need more information to make a suggestion on what your best option is. If you run the same loads at the same time every week you could come up with a regular schedule. For many of us the loads are irregular and dictate when a reset is taken or if one is required.bergy Thanks this. -
That's a maximum of 70 on duty hours in 8 days. You can burn those hours in six 11-hour days (plus change) with 10-hour breaks, or you can spread it out. As necessary. A 34-hour restart is optional too.

The reset rule states once every 168hrs (7days) from the start of previous reset and must include two periods of 1am to 5am.
So, if you end your day at 5pm on Thursday, then back to work on Monday; you have your restart. Now, your next restart cannot began before 5pm next Thursday.
So, as long as you are ending around the same time every Thursday or Friday, you can get a legal restart in before you go back out on Monday. You don't have to use your entire 70 hour clock before a restart.
If my schedule was Monday thru Thursday, I would get the reset in and never have to worry about hours. -
yep, if all your working is mon - thur. i don't know why your worried about the other 3 days. just start at 70 hours each week.
course, like stated above. 168 hours. so if you decided to work sun - wed. you still have to wait till thur. to start the actual 34 crap. but the next week you could start on wed. if that's what you work again. -
How do you legally drive 50 hrs in 4 days?
-
50 hours in 4 days is an average of 12 hours on duty each day. Drive 11 and spend 1 on line 4. That's not hard to do. -
dont see where op states he drives for 50 hrs in 4 days. says his duty is for the days. so, i'm assuming he's on line 3 and 4 for those 4 days
-
50 hours is just hypothetical number.
Ok so I am on duty from Monday to Thursday. Im taking two days off: Friday and Saturday. So on 7th day (Sunday) can I take my next duty?
My concern is because im not doing 7 days duty. My trip is usually 4 days. But usually I can start my next duty on 5th day (Friday) and I'm not sure if I can do it. -
Yes, there's no reason you can't work on the 5 th day if you have hours available.
If your trip is always 4 days you cannot take a 34 hour reset after each trip. Like mentioned you cannot start a reset until one week after you last started a reset.
Keep your average at 8.75 hours a day or less or work in a reset during the trip.
