Hello, I just got my CDL and am starting to look for a company to work for but have a question. I have a rx for Ambien and Tramadol, will this keep companies from hiring me. Will they show up in a urine or hair test and if they don't should I even tell them that I take it..They are both just take as needed....Thanks

If you have a prescription for it, it's fine as a rule. Company policy is just that though.
Tell the Dr when you go for a drug test, and take a bottle with you, with your name on it.

Thanks....I just hope to not waste time with a company and then they say sorry we can't hire you because you take this or that even though its a prescribed med.

Tramadol is an opiate which will show in a drug test as positive. You fail and it goes on your permanent record. Ambien has side effects, most trucking companies insurance carriers will not insure you, so no job. Some small mom and pop might hire you, but you would fail the pre-employment drug test if you had taken the Tramadol recently.

If the OP states he took XYZ drug, and has a 'script for it, he wont fail, period.
I have taken pain killers for tooth ache etc, and then got pulled for a random. Took the 'script in with me, told them what it's for, and here I am years later still running the truck

Yep. just like Leftlane stated. Take your script with you and let them list it and take your test.
No fuss no muss, No for the other one that's for reducing smoking right? If so is'nt that one banned due to the fact some people kinda go off the deep end so to speak taking this?

So if I've been taking Zolpidem (generic ambien) on a rx companies won't hire me? So i'd have to stop it long enough to pass a test, which some are doing hair follicle now and thats 90 days. That's BS what am i supposed to do in the mean time..I need a job

Stop panicking and call some companies. We take prescription meds and live through it, and pass P tests.
I said the answer, as well as others agreeing with it, up to you if you listen or not.

Alright thanks man just starting to stress about no job at the time. Just got the CDL and never been unemployed for the last 30 yrs and just so happens my wife is currently unemployed to finish her Masters in school..So that and the cost of driving school, just the thought that i couldn't get on because of the meds was working on me..Thanks again and be safe
