I'm looking at hiring a driver who doesn't have any accidents on his professional driving record, but has had a couple small claims on his personal insurance in the past 12 months. Will an accident my driver has in his personal car, that is not on my policy, affect my rates and my safety/accident record?

If he got tickets, or was at fault, yes. Or at least on my insurance.

If CDL lic. # is same as DL. lic.# he will carry them over to new CDL. its best to have MVR. run on driver before you get insur. in the mix?

Can't say, seems likely. But, regardless of fault, insurers say the odds of his being involved in another crash within 12 months are pretty darn good...

Seriously here, you need to talk to your insurance agent before making a decision as to whether or not to hire that driver.

Your insurance company will be the one that decides if he's allowed to drive under your authority. And no, his past record will not effect your safety rating. It did not happen under your company.

I woud suggest firat finding out what exactky he has on his MVR and loss history report You could to your insurance agent, ask him to run a personal lines auto quote that includes MVR and loss history report. And of course you would be doing this with the permission of your prospective driver....

The reason I'm suggesting this is that when I sold insurance for a living I can't tell you how many people forget accidents and tickets.

And one more thing, it's been my experience in insurance that if someone has a couple of at fault ccidents, they more than likely have tickets to go along with them....
