Ok Ladies and Gents, I just got my CDL with all endorsements except the X and will be going down Monday to get that added. Here is my question, the last time I drove OTR was about 10 years ago and I am sure a lot has changed. I am looking at staying regional in the San Antonio area and chasing the best money I can. WHAT would you do and what company would you go with if you had the opportunity? I really appreciate your input.

When it comes to driving a truck nothing has changed in the last ten years..You still have to put it in gear & go

It depends on what you want to drag behind you. Personally I went with line haul/LTL, but I waited almost 8 years before I made that move. I'm sure you can find a few line haul companies in the San Antonio area. They're all hiring, and start off around 50-60 cpm.

Hahahaha, and that sir is exactly what I missed. I figured by now they would have laser pressure optical thrust modules to put it into gear for you.

It would be general freight, probably similar to what you were hauling OTR, but less of it (hense the LTL acronym for Less Than Truckload).

Line hauls are shorter hops, such as San Antonio to Dallas and back. You'll be in a daycab pulling 2 27' pub trailers.

The fact he's been out 10+ years probably means he will have to start at the bottom with a trainer company. With that understanding, there are a lot of options but I don't see being much difference in terms of pay. They are all going to assure you the moon. First, decide on flatbed, van, reefer, or tanker, then go from there. The oilfield work will pay pretty good to start, but it has plenty go negatives to consider.
