Same here. Normally, knowing whether a coop is open or closed is irrelevant, and data obtained from anonymous sources is not to be relied upon.

For all you can know a DOT officer is sitting at the scale and reporting it closed, or open. Same goes for one of those drivers who can't keep their panties on, could be reporting a CA coop is closed and they're in NJ.

The Scale buddy app won't let you change the status of a scale unless your gps signal is within 5 miles of the scale, but it is anonymous information. I've been playing with it for about a week now and it has yet to be wrong.

I'm not really sure I get the point.

So you can go around open scales?
If not that I don't see why it matters if it's open/closed.

Yeah you can go around open scales but I wouldnt recommend it. I've heard from drivers that got caught going around that the fine for going around is worse than if you went thru the scale in the 1st place. Then DOT is probably going to follow you back to the scale then if you're overweight you get that fine too.

Drivers sometimes ask open or closed so they can stop before they get to the scale to update their log book,to scale the load if they havent already, to wait for the scale to close then continue if they have a problem they cant fix. Sometimes you can just slow down & let alot of trucks ahead of you hoping they'll close the scale when the ramp is full then you cruise by smiling.

Way way back in the day I was riding with a mob of 13 trucks all going home for the holiday, we were on ch 24 bs-ing. I'd mentioned my load taking me home for X-Mas was 80,140 and the shipper was closed for the holiday it was either take this load or not be home for X-Mas. I will be home for X-Mas one way or another. It is a very special holiday in my family, I've been home every X-Mas for 20 yrs. But I digress. so there is 1 scale between me & home, I drop back to the back door, everyone else goes in the scale & fills the ramp, the scale closes I cruise on by, you wont see that kind of camaraderie these days :biggrin_25513: .
