I am fresh out of school and I want to start trucking career pulling tankers. If possible I'd like to skip past pulling dry van or reefer and go directly into tankers.
I have my tanker/ airbrakes/ combination vehicle/ double & triples/ HAZMAT endorsements and a TWIC card. I just applied for a FAST card as well, I also have a passport.
I live on the central coast of California currently, about four hours north of greater Los Angeles area and four hours south of San Francisco bay area. I am planning on relocating to either the greater Phoenix, AZ area or Las Vegas, NV area.
Anyone know of a place that hires new CDL grads for tankers?
Applied at:
Trimac (rejected- need 18 months exp. or grad from their approved school)
Superior Carriers (no reply yet)
Schneider (NOT the bulk division as they don't have any listings to apply for in any areas I have tried. Not sure how easy it is to change to bulk there if not hired directly in for it)
Gazelle Transport (semi local place is only reason I applied to them, cannot complete application if you check box saying you have less than one year exp. though)
Planning on applying to Prime as they also have some tanks, its food grade apparently, but again, I don't know if I can just go straight into doing that or if they require some amount of exp. in dry van or something.

You can go right in to tankers with Prime is they have anything in your area.
Apply with Schneider Bulk anyway; might luck out.DrtyDiesel Thanks this. -
Something else to consider; if you have a friend or relative living in a hiring area then use their address.

Years ago when hitchhiking I was picked up by a tanker driver, that was one heck of a bucking truck.
CMFofNCChinatown, TruckrWnnaB and knuckledragger Thank this. -
My first time in a tanker, the driver had me ride with him to the chemical plant to pick up a pre-loaded trailer to bring back to the yard. On the way back he got off the interstate ramp going too fast and had to hit the brakes hard to get stopped at the stop sign. I thought another truck had rear ended us; stuff flying all over the inside of the cab. Glad the roads were dry or it would have been bad.

Schneider Bulk runs Drivers out of a big mud lot in Fontana. You might need to pretend to live near that area. Also, you need to find a recruiter for the Bulk Division.
This might sound Odd, but, Schneider mostly does not know what it is doing.
They need you and they will hire you. You just need to find the right person, and answer questions correctly when you do.hal380 Thanks this. -
Superior won't be much help in Ca. We do have a terminal in Parker Az but I don't believe they stage OTR drivers there. There is a Carry transit terminal in Stockton as well.
